Strength and weight benefits from carbon

Describe Yourself: Pro Photographer
I am a professional photographer and I do a lot of nature photography in addition to weddings. I have always lugged my heavy tripod to my weddings and just figured that was the price I had to pay for great shots. However, I recently started a new project capturing the many waterfalls of Hamilton Ontario which requires a lot of hiking up and down mountainous hillsides. It was then I decided it was time to invest in newer light weight equipment. Since I would be carrying a camera backpack I needed something that was light and would fold small.
After extensive research I decided the 3Pod P4CFH tripod with the H2 ballhead was the best choice for me. It has strength and weight benefits from carbon fiber material and with some other nice features the price offers a lot of "bang for the buck". It has a nice design that allows it to fold flat and when I retract the legs fully it shrinks to 18 inches in length. The flat short design, which I was skeptical about at first, makes it so I can easily stack things on it in my carryon or slide it next to other items in my backpack. Brilliant!
The center leg unscrews to make a monopod. It comes with a strap and the center leg also has a soft foam rubber hand grip. These are nice, well thought out touches. Sometimes a monopod is all I need and the reduction of weight in my backpack is much appreciated. The center column which attaches to the ballhead unscrews easily which allows me to make the choice of height vs. weight. In many cases I choose in favor of the lower weight on long hikes and heavy loads.
I usually use the rubber pads on the feet but in some hillsides with turf or soft earth, I will take the pads off and use the built in spikes instead. The legs adjust easily with a slight twist to loosen and twist back to tighten.
The leg angle can also be extended. Recently in very rugged area I need stability on an oddly angled rock which stood waist high. I opened the leg ratchets and the tripod base was almost opened to a platform with the legs retracted.
The K2 Ballhead is made from lightweight aluminum and it moves smoothly a full 360 degrees for panoramic shots or panning videos which I also do. It also comes with a quick release plate with a bubble level which locks your camera tightly. My only concern is the piece that attaches to the camera requires frequent retightening. I will have to look into why it continues to loosen on its own. Last but not least it come with a nice compact carry case with a velvet bag for the ballhead.
Since my purchase I have photographed Bermuda extensively as well as, 20 of the 100 Hamilton waterfalls and I am very pleased with my choice of equipment.

Window Frost

Window frost also called fern frost or ice flowers

Window Frost

Photography by Beata Whitehead

Window Frost

"Window frost (also called fern frost or ice flowers) forms when a glass pane is exposed to very cold air on the outside and moderately moist air on the inside. If the pane is not a good insulator (such as a single pane window), water vapor condenses on the glass forming patterns. With very low temperatures outside, frost can appear on the bottom of the window even with double pane energy efficient windows. (Due to air convection between two panes of glass, the bottom part of the glazing unit is always colder than the top part.) The glass surface influences the shape of crystals, so imperfections, scratches, or dust can modify the way ice nucleates. If the indoor air is very humid, rather than moderately so, water will first condense in small droplets and then freeze into clear ice."  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frost

The Wedding of Sabrina and Tucker

I had a wonderful wedding yesterday.  The Bride and Groom were so nice and such a beautiful couple it was a pleasure capturing their wedding. The Historic St. Luke's Church  and Virginia Air and Space Center were ideal for many great visual shots and Sabrina is so photogenic.  It made my job easy.

Beata Plawska

Beata Photography

My name is Beata Plawska and I have been living in Hampton Roads, VA for the past 13 years. I am an artist, photographer, and designer, who enjoys the eternal supply of loveliness, beauty and wonders found everywhere in my surroundings.

My company provides photo services for almost any photographic needs in the Hampton Roads area and beyond. I specialize mostly in events like weddings, engagements, family reunions and birthday parties. Naturally and spontaneously, I capture those extraordinary moments of yours in pictures that you will cherish for generations.

For all the events, I use a technique known as "photojournalism" which is a genre that covers the event in “real time” progression and where I am respectful of the natural occurrences and where the photographer seeks to minimize their leadership position in arranging, staging, and prompting subjects.  In other words, I try to capture the honesty and spontaneity of the event without artificially posing or scripting the shots.

As well as event photography, I specialize in both classic and contemporary fine portraits of individuals, couples, children, babies, families, and high school seniors. I also do head shots and comp cards (zed cards) for models. As an accomplished portraitist, I believe my responsibility is to turn an individual into a work of art. Each portrait is created individually, based on the personality, character and style of the person in front of my camera.

I also do fine art portraits on canvas. My interpretation of photographic reality through digital and traditional artistry places my portraiture in a completely new genre, a hybrid of photography and painting. I photograph the subject and then scrupulously overprint the image digitally. I also paint topically for luxuriant texture and allure. The style is similar to the paintings of Old Masters with multiple layers of paint and colors achieving a depth of light. I can make portraits of people, animals, or any subject that is precious to you.
Please view some examples of my work under the "Fine Arts" category.

In addition, I provide photo services including freelance photography services, image restoration, photo manipulation, photo collages, custom DVD presentations with music, coffee table books, yearbooks, church directories etc.

Whatever style you prefer I am a photographer who is dedicated to meeting your needs and providing you with pictures you will always treasure. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Wild Pony Photography Workshop

Grayson Highlands Hike to Mount Rogers, VA

When you take a wonderful hike in the Grayson Highlands, you get the feeling you're above tree line.  The rugged and rocky terrain, and wind-swept areas all contribute to that feeling. The hike itself is pleasant and not too tough. In the State Park, you're often treated to the wild ponies free roaming the conservation.
Not only did we photograph the wild ponies but, we also took some time to enjoy and photograph nature in all its fascinating beauty with breathtaking sunrises and sunsets. We spent one cold night on the bald peak. Awesome views! Winds were tremendous and stargazing was unbelievable.
